It was set up last year because LJ policies caused some parts of fandom to move over here. It's a more relaxed atmosphere than the comm on LJ, and you can post things other than wish lists (holiday virtual cards, links to holiday related charities, tutorials on hand making cards or ornaments etc). faynia	10:26a	Day Four Without a computer and my fingers are numb from the cold. I have to brave the harsh realities of New England's funky-do weather, which I have loved to hate since I was eight, to get to and from the school's computer lab at strange nighttime hours. It's oh-so-very-cold outside this week. I'm still not sure what I'll end up going for this coming Thanksgiving break. I know by the end of that week I will once again have a computer I can molest with badness for my very own, but I'm stuck between getting another laptop (only to have it last another three years and then DIE) or get a desktop computer which I can't exactly carry back and forth with me from place to place, but will last me as long as I wish to keep an outdated dinosaur and will have more memory than I can shake a stick at. I'm fretting about this as you can clearly see. On the one hand, I've cleverly proven to myself that I can, in fact, live without a computer for me to use nearby at any given second. On the other hand, I am unforgivably behind in NaNo. I just breached 21k last night, and I've started to do the dreaded jumping around. Every time I do that in a fic, the fic never gets finished. So, this is when I start to panic. Well, I've already been panicking for a while now. I've discovered I've seemingly forgotten how to write good prose. I can't really describe how horrified I am by some of the shit I'm writing, and not horrified in the dear lord that's gruesome/wrong/how the hell can you write that?! sort of way. No this is the sort of horror one feels when you realize what you're writing isn't good enough for a cat's litter box. Yes, I may be over-reacting just a tidge, but I can't shake that feeling. I seem to repeat myself 1000 times over, I think I've worn my poor babies eyeballs to a nib with the amount of times I make them glare/glower/stare/look/see/watch/observe...I need to work on that quite a bit, but I can't seem to stop using them. It's like an inconvenient mental block that's laughing at me. See? This is why I had hoped to never lose momentum on NaNo. Bad stuff always happens when I do. (2 Comments |Comment on this)

I know that every Champion worked hard for the good of their team and they all deserve highest marks for their efforts. We were all lucky to have won something during these Games. However, in the competition we set out to do, the Snarry Games Judges (you, the readers) have voted to score these teams, both having shown up to these Games with the most stellar of performances, allowing one to edge out the other for Gold. My name is djin7, and it's time that we begin to say goodbye to the 2008 Snarry Games. This was an amazing year, and the Art Games once again showed that the most talented people are still within the Snarry fandom. We had 50 truly exquisite pieces of art, and as always, great 'crack art' & interviews. We were able to post twice daily for nearly a month, and we have a great group of artists to thank for that. Also, many Champions, past and present, helped this round of the Games with pimping and reccing, and commenting. Our hope always has been to help facilitate a sense of community in this fandom, hoping to keep the SS Snarry sailing on happy waters. When we see how fantastically supportive past champions are, whether author or artist, it makes all our hard work worth every minute spent. Thank you, all! I ran across a quote that reminded me of fandom; and of Snarry in particular: "What moves men of genius, or rather what inspires their work, is not new ideas, but their obsession with the idea that what has already been said is still not enough." (Eugene Delacroix) No matter what the poll results, each artist brought something brand-new to Snarry, and gifted us with an ever deeper appreciation for the fandom we love. faynia	1:33p	I haven't had the flu since I was very little, but that's definitely what I had. I spent the entirety of my Saturday afternoon curled under a blanket shivering to the point I'm sure it looked like I was convulsing and sleeping. Sunday, I felt better, went back to school, and my laptop refused to behave in a proper manner. The backlight of my monitor kicked it. The panel on the back of my laptop is warped. My fan is dying a slow death. What does this mean? I'm getting a new one! Woo! I found one I liked at a price I could afford and I'm hoping to high heaven that my dad buys it and then ships it to me here. I never thought how reliant I was on my computer until it died and I bawled like an idiot. So good news, I may have a new one by Thanksgiving. Bad news, I'm not sure how the hell I'm going to finish my NaNo when all I think I'm ever going to be doing in the computer lab is keeping up with my flist. This is so frustrating! SO STUPIDLY FRUSTRATING. The worst part is this is all completely dependent on my father and just RAWR. I'm sick and want my laptop back. /whining (Comment on this)

alchemia	7:53p	Ok, so the JKR's "Outing Dumbledore" as the press put it, is old news, but going through my notes from Terminus, I came across this, and thought I'd throw it out ... "Virtually all who take a position on outing have qualified the limits to which it is permissible for one to go. The extremes are to out no one, or to out everyone. In between, four intermediate positions can be discerned (Johansson & Percy, p.228)": 1) Hypocrites only, and only when they actively oppose gay rights and interests; 2) Passive accomplices who help run homophobic institutions; 3) Prominent individuals whose outing would shatter stereotypes, and compel the public to reconsider its attitude on homosexuality; 4) Only the dead. Assessing to which degree the outer goes allows insight into the goal striven towards. So, which one(s) did JKR do with Dumbledore, and why? (1 Comment |Comment on this)
